A Viagem
Partindo do conceito da Arte Postal, os trabalhos são enviados para uma Caixa de Correio, sendo posteriormente expostos, dentro da própria caixa que os recebe, transformando-se num certo tipo de mini galeria efémera, criando uma rede de inter-relação artística e partilha das sucessivas intervenções no local.
Após o convite para enviar um trabalho para a Caixa de Correio, e tratando-se de um trabalho que iria viajar de Bruxelas para o Porto, lembrei-me das «Plantes Voyageuses», termo utilizado por Jean-Jacques Rousseau quando se refere à dificuldade de catalogar as plantas que têm grandes semelhanças entre si, mas que necessitam de classificação para o herbário, sendo então, encontrada a solução através do seu envio (já secas), para outros botânicos que poderão comparar com exemplares que possuam, e assim ser encontrado o verdadeiro nome da planta. Numa visita à Neblina, onde está a Caixa de Correio, vi uma pedra com um Feto vivo, talvez da mesma espécie de algum dos Fetos que tenho no meu Herbário Vitoriano, e, com o interesse de criar uma ponte de diálogo entre os objectos, construí um trabalho sob a forma de páginas de livro que seja uma possível paisagem composta por imagens simplificadas desses elementos.
A relação entre o Natural e o Artificial, o Original e o Modelo, é permanente no meu processo de trabalho, a Paisagem vem para dentro de casa, é interpretada, domesticada e representada passando a fazer parte de toda uma família de objectos naturais e/ou artificiais, animais ou vegetais. A linha que separa os objectos ou modelos dos meus desenhos, colecções ou arquivos, é quase inexistente.
Este conjunto de desenhos verticais e articuláveis resulta da imagem que viajou e regressou ao seu próprio espaço, na Caixa de Correio da Neblina.

Les Plantes Voyageuses: a project for the Neblina Mail Box
This project was conceived with three elements in mind: a mailbox; the artificial versus the natural; and movement and travelling.
The project is based on the concept of Mail Art; art works come from elsewhere to arrive into a mailbox, that eventually becomes a viewing space. The mailbox becomes a sort of ephemeral miniature gallery, lending itself to harbour a network of artistic interrelations that are the legacy of successive interventions arriving from other places.
Being in Brussels, as I started to prepare for this project, I thought of Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s “Plantes Voyageuses”. When facing difficulties to catalogue plants for his herbarium, he would send dried specimen to other botanists. This exchange of representations of plants allowed, via the comparison of others elsewhere, for the cataloguing of varieties to continue.
From a previous visit to Neblina, I recall seeing a stone with a fern. It was perhaps one of the species in my Victorian Herbarium, back home in Brussels. To create a dialogue between the objects, I have set out to send to the mailbox an object in the form of the pages of a book with the representation of a landscape built on shapes of those elements.
The relationship between the natural and the artificial, the original and the model permeates my work process. As a result, the landscape moves into the home. Through a process of interpretation and simplification it becomes part of a series of elements that build on my drawings, collections or archives. This blurs the lines between the natural and the artificial, between the objects and the models.
In this set of vertical and articulated drawings an image returned to its own space. It is in Neblina’s Mailbox.

Rita Carreiro nasceu no Porto em 1973. Vive e trabalha em Bruxelas.
Concluiu a Licenciatura em Pintura na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto.
Fez o Mestrado em Belas Artes ( M.A. Fine Arts ) na Wimbledon College of the Arts da University of London.
Foi Bolseira Erasmus na Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, em 1995.
Em 2001, recebeu o Prémio de Pintura da “ Terceira Edição do Prémio Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso”, Museu Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Amarante.
Expõe regularmente, desde 1995, colectiva e individualmente.
Ao longo dos anos tem colaborado em diferentes áreas, como da instalação, representação e performance.

Rita Carreiro was born in Porto in 1973.
Lives and works in Brussels.
She studied painting at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and holds a M.A. in Fine Arts by the University of the Arts – Wimbledon College of Arts, London.
She attended Sheffield Hallam University in 1995 with a Erasmus Scholarship.
In 2001, she was awarded the “Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso” Fine Arts Prize.
Since 1995, she has been showing her work regularly in several individual and collective exhibitions.
In her work, she has collaborated with other artists in different areas including installation, performance and stage setting.
